Maryland authorities are sharing more details about the shocking death of Rachel Morin.
Harford County Sheriff's Office Sheriff Jeffrey R. Gahler said in a video posted to Facebook Aug. 9 that the 37-year-old, whose body was found earlier this week, was the "victim of a violent homicide."
Morin was last seen Aug. 5 heading out on the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail in the town of Bel Air, MD. Officials said that when she didn't return home, her boyfriend reported her missing that night. The next day, her body was found on the side of the trail and identified by authorities. No suspects have been named and no arrests have been made.
"One question we have continued to get centers around whether we have interviewed the boyfriend in this case," the sheriff continued in his Facebook message. "The answer is yes, we have, along with many other people who are close to Rachel."
Gahler, whose department has asked for tips from the public to help identify the victim's killer, added, "Together, we will solve this crime and fine the heinous coward who took Rachel Morin from her family and friends."
The sheriff's most recent update comes just one day after he confirmed to Fox News Digital that they were considering Morin's death a murder, noting, "This is not an accidental death or an incident where she took her own life, This is foul play on the part of another."
As the police continue their investigation into Rachel's death, her loved ones are leaning on each other and the public for support. Her sister Rebekah Morin created a GoFundMe page to help my mother, Patty Morin with funeral costs" as "there was no life insurance in place."
She further shared that the family held a vigil for her late sister at the site she was last seen.
"This evening, we as a family walked the entire Ma and Pa trail together as a family in silent remembrance of Rachel," Rebekah wrote on Facebook Aug. 9. "Along the way we placed pictures of her and us her siblings on the trees. I was thinking how beautiful would it be to have flowers along both sides of the trail in remembrance of her!"
Morin's family further expressed their gratitude on social media, with her sister sharing a message from their mom.
"As a mom, I appreciate the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and the worldwide community that grieves with me for my young daughter," her Aug. 10 note read. "Thank you for caring. Truly."
And she further shared ways they plan to honor her late daughter's memory.
"Because of the tremendous outpouring of prayers, love and concern, our family is in the process of making arrangements for a Celebration of Life service to which friends and the community will be invited (more details to come)," she added. "And because Rachel was an avid runner, we are in the early stages of planning a 5K walk/run in her honor with the hope of having a trail of flowers."
